Safe travels with your pet

Cold winter weather, for a lot of Canadians, means it’s time for an escape to warmer climates down south. Whether you’re a regular snowbird or just taking a one-time vacation, it’s important to keep the following travel tips in mind if you’re bringing your pet along for the journey.

Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date
Also, ensure they you have any required health certifications depending on your destination.

Safely secure your pet
A must for vehicle travel. There are many different seatbelts, carseats and crates on the market, so do your research and find the best fit for your pet’s needs. Don’t forget to give your pet frequent exercise and potty breaks during a long drive!

Ensure your pet has the proper ID
In the event your pet goes missing, a dog or cat with proper ID and a microchip has a greater chance of being returned to you.

Make arrangements in advance
When travelling by plane, make all necessary travel arrangements ahead of time to ensure your pet will be cared for during the flight.
