True Tails from Canadian Pet Parents
Big Kitty Kitty

Our Maine Coon cat, Bailey, has always been a big cat. His weight had become such a problem that he started to have trouble jumping onto the counter.
One day, we noticed that our 13-year-old Bailey had lost a considerable amount of weight. Our first thought was that the diet food was working incredibly well, but then we realized that Bailey was actually eating more because he was constantly hungry. After a series of blood tests at the veterinary clinic, Bailey was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.
We were advised that the safest and most effective treatment available was radioiodine therapy. This would involve a single injection of radioactive iodine under Bailey's skin. The radioactive iodine destroys the abnormal thyroid tissue that causes the illness.
There is little to no discomfort, and the success rate is about 90-98%. This therapy is also a better alternative to daily medication or surgery for hyperthyroid felines. The down side was that it runs a bill of about $1,100. Having pet insurance from Petsecure gave us the peace of mind to be able to provide our pet with the best possible treatment available.
Because of this treatment and pet health insurance, Bailey is now healthier than ever! We are so thankful that he doesn't require daily medication for the rest of his life. Thank you, Petsecure pet insurance!
