Alyssa Denis, Calgary, AB Luna is a Special Skills Service Dog and my best friend. As I have Systemic Lupus and Osteoporosis, Luna helps me with many things from opening and closing doors, seizure response and more.
Earlier this year, Luna was diagnosed with Limbal Melanoma – a tumour in the eye. I was devastated because I wouldn't be able to cover the cost of her $6,000 vet bill as my disability prevents me from working and my income is very low. Dr. Skorobohach knew my situation so he worked with us to reduce the costs, though it was still much more than I could afford.
Two weeks prior to our appointment, I signed up with Petsecure having learned how important pet insurance was, though because I had signed up the day of diagnosis, the tumour was considered a pre-existing condition and therefore Petsecure was unable to cover the costs.
While at the vet clinic, a representative from Petsecure named Jennifer was also in the office that day. She heard about Luna's condition and how desperate I was. Jennifer asked me if she could speak to Petsecure on my behalf and I said of course, though wasn't expecting much.
A week later, I received a phone call from Jennifer saying her boss was so moved by our situation and he wanted to help us. He waived the waiting period on our policy, so that they could cover her surgery. Hearing that Petsecure would do something this kind and wonderful for me and Luna brought me to tears.
Luna has given me back my life, my independence and my freedom. I am extremely thankful to both Petsecure and CARE Animal Hospital for all their love, caring, and help with Luna.
